Welcome to the Healthy Family Project.  My name is Tony Maslan and I would like to thank you for being a part of this community.  This project is important to me for very personal reasons.  I am married and have 3 wonderful children, Owen 6, Nikolas 4, and Maggie 2.  It is very important to me that I do everything in my power to help them create habits that lead to living a healthy lifestyle in the future. I also own Custom Fit Personal Training in Evansville, Indiana.  On a daily basis I help people deal with challenges and struggles they face trying to lose weight, increase their fitness levels, and in general just live a healthier happier life.
We are facing many challenges in our society right now, but with those challenges come opportunities. One of the challenges we face is the alarming rate at which the obesity level of our population is increasing.  A major concern that goes along with that is the increase in childhood obesity.
Along with this challenge, we also have the opportunity to do something about it.  This is where you and I can work together to make a difference.
I believe that the responsibility for the health and well-being of our children begins in the home.  Too often we want to blame the school lunches, or advertising, or just about anyone else we can think of.  We have to take responsibility first and foremost for ourselves.
What I want to do with this project is create a forum where we can work together as a community, sharing ideas, challenges, frustrations, and celebrations.
I will be gathering as much information as I can regarding the major challenges people face that hinder the health and fitness of their family.  Starting in January I will be addressing these challenges and possible solutions to those challenges here on this blog.
I will be the first to admit that I don't know everything, but I do know a lot about how to live a healthy lifestyle, and more importantly I know a lot of experts in the field who can assist when needed.  I am also a big believer in the education of experience.  By involving as many families as possible in this project, we have a great chance that someone in this community will have faced and overcome the same issue someone else is dealing with right now.  The true success from this project will come from the power and knowledge of this entire community focusing on a common goal:  Creating Healthy, Happy Families.
Please feel free to submit your thoughts and comments.  If you would like to post a challenge you and/or your family face in the comments section of the blog, please do so. If you would like to submit a question anonymously, please email it to tmaslan@cfpt.us and put Healthy Family Project in the subject line.
